Homework Assignment #3

Assignment #3 Book Cover Design/ Due Monday 10/7 Create an illustration for a Penguin Classics book cover. Art due October 7th ( No class on September 30th because of the jewish holiday) Go to the library or bookstore. Pick a book that you have or haven’t read that is a Penguin Classic. Ideally you would read it or already read it. Do some research, skim, understand the overall plot, etc. Maybe pick a passage that is important, etc. Brainstorm ideas for a new concept and composition that embraces a visual image that conveys the story or aspect of the story. Draw some thumbnails. The artwork should be completed in a traditional manner. Pencil, ink, paint, pastel, watercolor, stencil, etc. The art area is fairly small. I suggest working larger than 100%. Possibly 125-200 percent for this project. This will allow for more details or easier execution, unless you feel comfortable working small. You will need to scan your art in. SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS Sketchbook Assignment 1- Go outside! / Due Monday 9/16 Go to the park or somewhere where there are trees, plants, flowers, etc. Go hiking or go to a local botanical garden. Try even the garden center or florist of necessary. Turn off your devices and music. The focus is on nature and being outdoors. For example, this could include an outdoor landscape, a drawings of plants, a rooftop view, or a park/cemetery, etc Make 3 drawings. Sketchbook Assignment 2- Draw Your Dreams/ Due Monday 9/23 If you can’t remember or don’t have a dream ask a family member or friend. Or draw a distinct dream from the past. Keep your sketchbook by your bed and jot down notes when you wake up so you don’t forget. Draw what you can. Maybe you remember a full scene for one dream or maybe it’s just a character from another.
